Love Your Nuts (LYN) is a South African non-profit organisation focused on raising awareness around testicular cancer, early detection, and education. Registered as a Section 18A organisation, LYN works to encourage open conversations about men’s health and the importance of seeking medical advice early. Overview The foundation was established by Torsten Koehler, who was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1995 while working as a teacher delivering sex education to young students. His experience led to a deeper commitment to awareness and education, particularly among younger people. During his recovery, the support of friends, family, and students played a significant role in his journey. This later inspired the publication of his book “Love Your Nuts”, first released in German (2004) and later in English (2011). Impact & Mission The foundation’s work is rooted in real-life impact. A former student once shared: “Because you made us aware, I went to the doctor in time. I’ve got testicular cancer too. I’m 16 and you saved my life.” This moment became a defining motivation behind the foundation — reinforcing the importance of awareness, early detection, and accessible education. Focus Areas Testicular cancer awareness Early detection education Youth-focused health education Public speaking and outreach Approach LYN uses storytelling, education, and community engagement to normalise conversations around men’s health. The organisation promotes the message that: Early detection can save lives Open discussion reduces stigma Every individual’s life has value
This organisation is located in Cape Town and is part of the city's LGBTQ+ community landscape.
