The City of Johannesburg has highlighted Soweto Pride 2026 as the event returns to Orlando West for two days of visibility, remembrance and queer joy. This year’s theme, “iSango leNkululeko – Our Heritage”, connects Pride with Heritage Month and the constitutional values of dignity, equality and freedom. Founded by the Forum for the Empowerment of Women FEW in 2004, Soweto Pride began as a space for LBQ women and the wider LGBTQIA+ community in response to violence and exclusion. The Pride March takes place on Friday, 25 September on Vilakazi Street, followed by the Queer Joy Celebration at Kwa Lichaba on Saturday, 26 September. The City says the march will promote safer communities, social cohesion and equal rights, while honouring people who have lost their lives to hate crimes. More event details on Infogaytion.
