Sandy Bay signs prohibit nudity and warn of drone surveillance

Signs along the route to Sandy Bay now state that nudity and sexual misconduct are prohibited in public spaces, including the beach and pathways. They also warn of fines and surveillance, including drones.

New signage at Sandy Bay in Cape Town states that nudity and sexual misconduct are prohibited on the beach and access pathways, warns that fines may be issued and says the area is under surveillance, including drones. SANParks said earlier this year that Sandy Bay forms part of Table Mountain National Park and has never been formally designated as a naturist beach. Naturist representatives dispute the legal basis for prohibiting nudity and are seeking consultation with the authorities. For visitors, the practical position has changed: older guides may still describe Sandy Bay as clothing-optional, but the current signs explicitly say nudity is prohibited.
