Centurion deserves to be understood as its own destination rather than folded into Pretoria. It sits south of Pretoria and north of Midrand within the City of Tshwane, with its own transport hub, neighbourhoods, nightlife and visitor attractions. For LGBTQ+ travellers, the reason to pay attention is particularly clear: Centurion has a permanent gay venue in ETC Pub Centurion, and major Pride events use venues here. That does not mean Centurion has a large gay district or a dense circuit of LGBTQ+ businesses. Infogaytion only labels places as LGBTQ+-specific when there is evidence to support it. The useful way to plan Centurion is therefore to combine its verified queer anchors with the wider destination: nightlife, Pride, nature, Irene, sport and straightforward connections across Gauteng. LGBTQ+ Centurion The clearest year-round LGBTQ+ anchor is ETC Pub Centurion at 31 Kwartsiet Street. The venue describes itself as a gay club and LGBTQ-friendly space and operates seven days a week, with current venue information listing hours from 18:00 to 02:00. ETC is more than a generic bar that happens to welcome LGBTQ+ customers. Its programme is built around queer social life, with DJs, dancing, karaoke, themed parties, drag and special-event nights appearing in its public updates. That makes it useful both for locals and for visitors who want a specifically LGBTQ+ night out rather than trying to guess which mainstream venues may be welcoming. As with any nightlife venue, the programme can change. Check the venue's current social posts before making a special trip, particularly if you are travelling for a specific performer, themed night or event. Pride in Centurion Centurion's LGBTQ+ relevance is also visible through Pride events. Pretoria Pride 2026 is being held at Centurion Rugby Club in Die Hoewes on Saturday 10 October. The event keeps the Pretoria Pride name used by its organisers, but geographically the venue is in Centurion. Infogaytion therefore lists the event according to where it physically takes place while preserving the organiser's event name. Jacaranda Pride 2026 is also scheduled for 10 October, at ETC Pub Centurion. This gives Centurion two distinct Pride-related gatherings on the same date in 2026. Visitors should check each organiser's current information before travelling because programmes, access arrangements and event details can change. Pride dates should never be assumed to repeat automatically from one year to the next. Infogaytion updates future listings when organisers publish confirmed information rather than projecting a previous date forward. Getting to Centurion Centurion is well connected to the rest of Gauteng. The Gautrain's north-south commuter service stops at Centurion, linking it with Pretoria, Midrand, Sandton, Rosebank and Johannesburg Park Station. This makes the city practical for visitors who do not want to drive every long-distance leg of a Gauteng trip. The station does not make every Centurion attraction walkable, however. ETC Pub, Irene, Rietvlei Nature Reserve and other destinations are spread across the wider area. A car or reputable e-hailing service is usually the simplest option for the last part of the journey, especially at night. If you are combining Johannesburg, Pretoria and Centurion in one trip, plan them as connected but separate destinations. Gauteng traffic can make apparently short distances take considerably longer at peak times. Rietvlei Nature Reserve Rietvlei Nature Reserve is one of Centurion's strongest outdoor attractions. The City of Tshwane describes the reserve as an urban conservation area of roughly 4,000 hectares, with grassland, wetlands, self-drive roads and bird hides. Wildlife recorded in the reserve includes buffalo, white rhino, zebra, wildebeest, hippo and a wide range of birdlife. It is a useful counterpoint to a nightlife-led visit: a morning or day at Rietvlei can give you a very different experience without leaving the Tshwane metro. Check the City of Tshwane's current opening information, fees and access conditions before visiting. Nature-reserve arrangements can change and weather can affect what makes sense on the day. Irene and Smuts House Irene gives the Centurion area a quieter, more historic side. The Smuts House Museum occupies the former home of Jan Smuts, who lived there from 1910 until his death in 1950. The site also offers grounds, walking opportunities, picnic space and a tea garden. You do not need to build an entire trip around the museum for Irene to be useful. It can work as part of a slower day away from shopping centres and major roads, especially if you are staying nearby or combining it with Rietvlei. As with any heritage site, check current opening hours directly before visiting rather than relying on an old travel listing. SuperSport Park SuperSport Park in Die Hoewes is one of South Africa's established cricket grounds and regularly hosts major domestic and international matches. If your Centurion dates overlap with a fixture, the ground can become one of the most active parts of the city. Match days can also affect traffic and demand for nearby accommodation, so it is worth checking the cricket calendar when planning a visit even if you are not attending a game. Where to stay Centurion is spread out enough that location matters more than simply booking the first property with “Centurion” in its address. If public transport connections are important, accommodation near Centurion Gautrain station can make onward travel to Pretoria, Midrand, Sandton and Johannesburg easier. If you are planning a quieter weekend focused on Irene, Rietvlei or heritage, staying closer to Irene may make more sense. If ETC Pub is central to the trip, check the actual travel time to Kwartsiet Street before booking. Infogaytion does not automatically label ordinary hotels and guesthouses as LGBTQ+ venues. Use the accommodation options that suit your trip, read recent guest information and choose according to location, transport and the kind of stay you want. Food and nightlife Centurion has a broad mainstream restaurant and entertainment scene, but Infogaytion is not going to turn ordinary restaurants or bars into “gay venues” without evidence. ETC Pub remains the dedicated LGBTQ+ nightlife anchor currently verified for the destination. That distinction matters. A useful LGBTQ+ travel guide should make it easier to find genuinely queer spaces without suggesting that every fashionable bar or restaurant has a specific LGBTQ+ identity. For the rest of an evening, build around the part of Centurion you are already in. The area is too spread out to treat every restaurant, attraction and nightlife stop as if they were on one walkable strip. Centurion, Pretoria and Tshwane Centurion and Pretoria are closely connected, and both fall within the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, but Infogaytion treats them as separate destinations. This is partly about geographic accuracy and partly about making the site more useful. An event at Centurion Rugby Club should be discoverable as a Centurion event. A permanent venue on Kwartsiet Street should not need a Pretoria label simply because Pretoria is the better-known nearby city. At the same time, regional discovery can still connect them. Someone planning a Gauteng trip may reasonably combine Johannesburg, Pretoria and Centurion, and Infogaytion's social roundups can surface selected events from all three when they are genuinely part of that carousel. Planning a Centurion visit For a first LGBTQ+ visit, a simple plan works well: check ETC Pub's current programme, see whether any Pride or community event overlaps your dates, choose accommodation around your transport needs, and add one or two non-nightlife experiences such as Rietvlei, Irene or a cricket match. Centurion is not being presented as something it is not. It does not need an invented gay district or a long list of unverified “friendly” businesses to justify inclusion. A permanent LGBTQ+ venue, significant Pride activity and enough destination substance around it are already enough to make the city useful on Infogaytion. Useful sources for planning For current transport information, check Gautrain directly. For Rietvlei, use City of Tshwane visitor information. Smuts House Museum publishes its own visitor details, while Cricket South Africa and official fixture sources are the safest place to check major matches at SuperSport Park. For ETC Pub and Pride events, use the venue and organisers' current social updates. Last reviewed 29 September 2026.
