LGBTQ+ Durban: Pride, Nightlife & Support

Durban has one of South Africa’s most visible regional LGBTQ+ communities, with two Pride marches documented in June 2026, dedicated queer nightlife and long-running community support infrastructure. The city works best when its LGBTQ+ layer is treated as part of a broader coastal trip rather than reduced to a single nightlife district. Pride and community Durban hosted eThekwini Pride on 6 June 2026 along South Beach and a further Durban Pride march on 27 June through the city centre. Both events combined celebration with public visibility, equality messaging and community participation. The dates are retained as evidence of an active community; future editions should only be listed once organisers confirm them. Queer nightlife Pride of Durban is a current dedicated LGBTQ+ bar and club at 30 Joe Slovo Street in central Durban. Current specialist LGBTQ+ directories list regular entertainment, food and late-night opening. As always, check the venue’s current channels before travelling because nightlife hours and programmes can change. On 29 August 2026, Club 386 in Umhlanga hosts the official Bed By 10pm LGBTQIA+ Edition from 16:00 to 21:00, with 80s–00s music, drag and an explicitly queer audience. The event is ticketed through Howler. Support LGBTI Centre SA at 42 McKenzie Road in Windermere remains a practical Durban resource. KwaZulu-Natal also has Trans Hope for transgender and gender-diverse people, Uthingo Network with a rural-rights focus, and Mpilonhle’s LGBTQ+ programme in rural and peri-urban districts. Beyond the scene The Golden Mile and South Beach are Durban’s most obvious visitor anchors, while uMhlanga adds a more polished coastal option north of the centre. Durban’s Indian heritage is central to the city’s food culture, so leave room for curry and bunny chow as well as the beach.
