LGBTQ+ Polokwane: Community, Pride History & Limpopo

Polokwane has a real LGBTQ+ community infrastructure that is easy to miss if the city is judged only by permanent nightlife. Capricorn Ignited LGBTI is based in Polokwane and works across Limpopo on LGBTQ+ visibility, sexual and reproductive health and rights, training, sensitisation, community support and advocacy. The University of Limpopo also hosted a dedicated LGBTQI+ Pride Month celebration in October 2025. Polokwane has hosted Limpopo Pride marches, including a documented second annual march in May 2024. The sensible way to present the city is therefore as a regional LGBTQ+ community hub rather than to invent a gay-bar district that current evidence does not support.
